Cepsa partners with OdiseIA to promote sustainability in Artificial Intelligence

Cepsa, a leading energy company, has joined forces with OdiseIA, the observatory for the social and ethical impact of artificial intelligence (AI), to advance responsible and sustainable AI usage. OdiseIA’s mission, which involves over 15 Spanish companies, universities, and institutions, centers on promoting ethical, legitimate, and socially beneficial AI practices.

As part of their commitment to ethical AI development and deployment, Cepsa will lead a working group called “Green AI: Artificial Intelligence for Sustainability.” This collaborative effort aims to analyze the resource consumption associated with AI deployment, particularly in terms of electricity usage and carbon footprint. Additionally, the group will explore how AI can enhance efficiency, innovation, and competitiveness in energy-related applications.

We emphasize the importance of understanding the implications of AI in the energy sector. By partnering with OdiseIA, Cepsa aims to promote ethical and responsible AI use while ensuring positive impacts during the energy transition.

Idoia Salazar, President of OdiseIA, underscores the significance of the alliance with Cepsa in promoting responsible AI practices within the energy domain. Together, they aspire to contribute to a more sustainable future through the application of AI.

The working group led by Cepsa will focus on two key areas: “Green in AI” and “Green by AI.” In the former, efforts will be directed toward minimizing AI solutions’ energy consumption by optimizing model design, training, execution, and infrastructure usage. A carbon footprint measurement framework will be established. Meanwhile, “Green by AI” will explore AI-driven developments that directly improve the environment, facilitating the transition to renewable energy sources, emission reduction, intelligent resource management, and natural resource utilization.
